Information Communication Technology

The University’s ICT division is dedicated to making a valued contribution
to the University through providing high-value solutions and outstanding
service. Application Services are a core unit within the ICT that develops,
maintains and supports the University’s enterprise systems.

Right now, the ICT is forming a dynamic Agile Systems team that will provide
Application Services with the capability to deliver small to medium sized
software solutions using Agile techniques and methodologies. Consequently,
ICT is seeking a proactive and analytical Manager to support the selection
and implementation of new methodologies, as well as technically lead, mentor
and enrich the Agile Systems team.

Self-driven and energetic, you will lead your team through all aspects of
analysis, design and programming tasks, and determine the application
architecture. Furthermore, you will participate in the evaluation and
selection of ongoing technical solutions, including the selection of
development platforms, frameworks and methodologies.

As the conduit between the business users and the development team, you will
mentor developers and prioritise development work in consultation with the
Director of Application Services, and ensure a consistent and professional
delivery of services to clients. A confident communicator with exceptional
interpersonal skills, you will be able to provide high quality technical
advice and reports to your team and managers. You will also establish and
maintain solid relationships with key stakeholders. Equally important will
be your exceptional analytical and problem solving capabilities, your strong
time management and organisational skills.

To succeed, you will have a Bachelors or Postgraduate degree in IT, with
experience in the Agile System Development Lifecycle and with using Agile
methodologies to deliver software solutions. Experience with a variety of
but not limited to, one of the following methodologies is essential :
Xtreme Programming, Feature and Test Driven Development, SCRUM or RUP, as
will experience with databases such as MySQL and some Linux /Unix system
administration experience. You will need experience with a range of
development tools and web frameworks, including Ruby on Rails, PHP5 (Cake),
Spring / Tapestry, HTML/CSS, JavaScript, Java Server Pages and servlets, XML
and (SOAP, RSS), as well as Object Oriented Design and Pattern Matching
experience. You will also require experience with application servers and
web servers (Apache), and the management of source version control using
either CVS or Subversion is also required.

Some management experience and a background in a large, complex organisation
will be paramount.

The position is full-time continuing, subject to the completion of a

Remuneration package: An attractive remuneration package is available at
level HEO10 (consisting of a base salary, leave loading and employer’s
contribution to superannuation) .
